Small and medium businesses are an essential driver of the economy. They employ over 40% of the Australian workforce and keep Australia’s economy humming.

However, Commonwealth Bank research tells us that up to 80% of small and medium businesses are delaying the adoption of digital technologies that could provide long-term benefits to their business.

For example, small businesses with high levels of digital engagement are:

  • 1.5 times more likely to be growing revenue
  • 8 times more likely to be creating jobs; and
  • 14 times more likely to be innovating.

Digital technologies can be used to help small business in a number of ways, from "customer facing" technology such as websites, social media and selling products online, to internal programs for managing accounting, sales and supply chains.

The Small Business Digital Taskforce wants to hear your ideas on how more small businesses can be supported to adopt digital technology.

Here are some questions to get you started:

  • Can you see the value of digital technology for your business?
  • Who do you turn to for advice on using digital technology in your business?
  • How might small business find and understand useful information to support digital decision making?
  • How might the skills and confidence to use digital technology be encouraged in small businesses?
